Back to Zero

We took the many hits, the ship’s on fire
The mast are down, they’re on the ground
They’re laying in the mire
My body’s sore, starting to tire
Just when it’s time to get to work
And to put out all the fire
I’ll get my hammer, salvage some nails
And wonder how we fell- fell off the rails
But the gains I make don’t make me a hero
All the work I do is just to get back to zero
We’ve lost more, more than we’ve gained
We’ve lost people, self respect, and we’re feeling drained
We stand defeated on a forgotten ship
And wonder if this journey is something we should skip
Feels like a ghost- they won’t be missed
The town is taking me apart I wonder why I resist
